Cristiano Ronaldo is opening up about the challenges that deepened his bond with fiancée Georgina Rodríguez. In a candid interview with Piers Morgan, the 40-year-old soccer legend reflected on a "difficult period" in their lives that ultimately brought them closer together.

Ronaldo discussed several personal moments during the interview, including the loss of his son. In April 2022, he and Rodríguez revealed on social media that one of their newborn twins had passed away. "Probably in that period we consolidated the relationship more," he told Morgan. "It was a difficult period, but it was nice because I learned so many things."

He went on to share how the experience changed his outlook on life. "I saw another perspective of life, my daughter, who is now three years old, the queen of the family, who makes the house happy," Ronaldo said. "Everything happens for a reason. We are a blessed family. I'm proud of that."

The Portuguese star has five children in total. He welcomed his eldest, Cristiano Jr., 15, via surrogate in 2010, followed by twins Eva Maria and Mateo, 8, born through surrogacy in 2017. With Rodríguez, he shares daughters Alana, 8, and Bella Esmeralda, 3.

In August 2025, after eight years together, Ronaldo and Rodríguez announced their engagement with a post on Instagram, where Rodríguez shared a photo of her hand resting on his, showing off her engagement ring.

During the interview, Ronaldo expressed admiration and gratitude toward his fiancée, calling her the heart of their family. "Gio is unique. She takes care of me, which is very important," he said. "She takes care of the family and the house, which takes a lot of work. She's the person who understands me and takes care of me and my family. This is what I'm looking for."

Explaining his decision to propose, Ronaldo said, "I think it's the moment, not only because she's the mother of my kids but because she's the love of my life. It's the right moment."

He also revealed their wedding plans, saying they intend to marry after the World Cup. "We plan to do it after the World Cup with the trophy," he said. "But she doesn't like big parties. She prefers private things, and I will respect that."
