Meghan Markle is officially back in front of the camera, and this time, she's playing herself.

The Duchess of Sussex, 44, has returned to acting for the first time since stepping away from Hollywood nearly a decade ago, joining Brie Larson, Lily Collins, Jack Quaid, and Henry Golding in the upcoming Amazon MGM comedy Close Personal Friends.

Sources tell PEOPLE that Meghan was seen filming on November 5 in Pasadena, California, appearing "relaxed and happy" as she mingled with cast and crew. "She has a small part," an insider said. "She introduced herself to everyone and was very down-to-earth. It felt like a natural return for her."

The new project follows a couple who befriend a famous pair during a getaway to Santa Barbara, not far from Montecito, where Meghan and Prince Harry live with their two children, Archie and Lilibet. The film's plot, insiders say, has a "clever wink" to Meghan's own post-royal life in California.

A studio source told The Sun that Meghan's cameo is "a gentle step back" into acting after years focused on philanthropic work. "She's been approached with dozens of offers, but this felt right, it's lighthearted and lets her reconnect with what she loved doing."

Prince Harry is said to be fully supportive. "He just wants Meghan to do what brings her joy," the source added.

Meghan, best known for her role as Rachel Zane in Suits, stepped away from the industry after her 2017 engagement to Harry. At the time, she said it wasn't about giving something up, just "turning the page" on a new chapter.

Her brief return marks a significant moment in the Duchess's evolving public image, one that blends her Hollywood roots with her life as a global public figure. Whether it sparks a full comeback or remains a one-time appearance, Meghan Markle seems ready, once again, for her close-up.
