Margot Robbie is taking a more private approach when it comes to her personal life, especially regarding her one-year-old son. The 35-year-old actress, who welcomed her first child with husband Tom Ackerley in October 2024, recently told British Vogue that she is keeping certain aspects of motherhood away from the public eye. "I'm trying to keep that side of things private and protect him," Robbie explained, emphasizing her desire to safeguard her family.
Reflecting on her early career, Robbie admitted she used to be more open in interviews but faced challenges from misrepresentation. "Earlier in my career, I'd speak more freely in interviews. I've just been burnt so many times, when people have taken what I've said out of context," she said. She recalled a moment from a decade ago when a newspaper put words in her mouth: "I remember the first time, 10 years ago, seeing that in a newspaper and I could not get my head around it. I was like, 'They just made it up?' There was no way for me to change or control it. I just had to accept that."
Robbie noted that becoming a mother and entering her 30s inspired her to set clear limits. "When you shift from your 20s to your 30s and beyond, you think, 'I am going to do things differently. Here are my new boundaries,'" she shared. Earlier in the year, she spoke briefly about motherhood during press for A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, calling it "the best." In interviews, she even included moments of candidness, with her baby occasionally audible in the background. Despite these glimpses, Robbie now prefers to maintain privacy for her family's sake.
Her husband, Tom Ackerley, has also highlighted how seamlessly family life and work coexist for the couple. "It's seamless. We don't have a toggle on, toggle off. It's all become one thing," he told The Times, describing their 24-hour shared life between parenting and managing their production company, LuckyChap.
Robbie's approach underscores a conscious choice to balance her professional achievements with personal boundaries. She clarified that while she values sharing certain experiences, protecting her child and personal life takes precedence.
