Kate Gosselin is taking a major step in her recovery after a severe leg injury sidelined her for nearly three months. The Jon & Kate Plus 8 alum, 50, revealed on Dec. 20 that she was cleared to begin walking again following a "life-altering" fracture sustained in September.
"It's walking day!" Gosselin announced in a TikTok video while on her way to a doctor's appointment. "It finally came. I'm so excited I can't even stand it." During the visit, her physician gave her the official go-ahead to gradually put weight on her injured leg. "I have to start at 25 percent, and then 50 percent, 75 percent, 100 percent," she explained. "So you won't see me really walking immediately, but I'm excited."
The injury occurred when her dog Meika collided with her leg while running full speed during a game of fetch with her boyfriend, Steve Neild. "My boyfriend threw the ball and she came running for it and she was running at the absolute speed of light and I stepped the wrong way," Gosselin recalled on TikTok Live. "The only way I can describe it, it was like a concrete wall running at the speed of light." The impact resulted in a tibial plateau fracture that required three hours of surgery involving plates and pins.
After the surgery, Gosselin revealed that the recovery process was extremely painful and challenging. She explained that the early days at home were overwhelming, as she
had to adjust to the limitations of her injury and manage daily tasks while slowly regaining mobility, recalling the difficulties she experienced during her previous period of bed rest more than two decades ago.
Gosselin has now started physical therapy, carefully taking steps with the support of crutches and a metal bar. She is gradually increasing the amount of weight she puts on her injured leg each day, demonstrating her commitment to rebuilding strength and regaining full mobility.
The reality star, who shares eight children with ex-husband Jon Gosselin, has documented her recovery on social media, giving fans rare glimpses into her life away from television. Despite past family tensions, Gosselin remains focused on rebuilding her strength and reclaiming independence after what she described as a truly life-altering event.
