Faye Greenwood is sharing her shocking health journey. Six months after suffering a heart attack at the age of 24, which resulted in her receiving a heart transplant in October, the travel influencer reflected on the traumatic experience.
"I couldn't believe that something that serious would be happening," Faye told the BBC in a January 5 interview. "[You think:] 'That won't happen to me,' and then it did."
Despite being previously diagnosed with a heart condition known as dilated cardiomyopathy, the U.K. native stated that doctors are still unsure what caused the heart attack in July. However, she recalls experiencing chest pains and vomiting prior to the episode.
"I can't really remember a lot, but I just felt I was in really bad pain, something I've never felt before," Faye told me. "A feeling of doom, like the world was closing in."
She said of the attack and subsequent heart transplant, "It's just something you never think you're going to have to deal with."
Despite the life-threatening experience, Faye has expressed her renewed appreciation for life.
"I have a new, good, great, lovely, perfect, beating little heart that I've been so lucky to receive," she wrote in a TikTok post on November 23. "And I just can't even believe it."
The influencer went on to say, "So lucky and grateful that I'm still here."
Throughout her health struggles, Faye was supported by her now-fiancé, Ailbhe Lower, who officially proposed last month after previously stating that they were headed for a happily ever after.
"We basically got engaged like three times," Faye and Ailbhe—known online as Mr. Bruv—said in a TikTok video on December 28 to announce their official engagement. "The first one was a promise that I was going to marry you, which was in the hospital in Paris like three days after my heart attack."
She continued, "It was a promise that once I'm better, we're going to get married."
Following a second proposal during another of Faye's hospital stays, Ailbhe made their engagement official by getting down on one knee on the fifth anniversary of their first date.
"It was perfect," Faye stated. "I absolutely love my ring, and I love all of our little engagements, and I feel so happy and such a lucky girl."
