The Swayze family has suffered another loss. Sean Swayze, Patrick Swayze's younger brother, died on December 15 from an upper gastrointestinal bleed, according to a death certificate obtained by People. He was 63.
"I'm heartbroken to share that my cousin Sean Swayze passed away today," Sean's cousin Rachel Leon wrote on Instagram shortly after his death. "Just recently, we were talking about him coming down to Texas to spend time with us, and I was really looking forward to it."
According to his death certificate, Sean died as a result of "severe metabolic acidosis, esophageal varices, and alcoholic liver cirrhosis," as reported by People.
Sean is survived by his brother Don Swayze and his children Jesse, Kyle, and Cassie Swayze.
"We are praying hard for the entire family during this difficult time," Rachel added in her message. "Please know that we love you and will always be there for you. Sean, I adore you, and we will deeply miss you."
The Dirty Dancing star died in 2009 from pancreatic cancer, which he had before his brother. In the years since his death, his widow, Lisa Niemi—who later married Albert DePrisco in 2014—has reflected on how she revisits Patrick's films to keep his memory alive.
"Here and there, it kind of catches me unaware, and I always have my favorite parts," Lisa said during a 2023 appearance on Today. "I always cry in the same three spots in Ghost. I've always loved him falling out of the back of the plane in Point Break, saying, 'Adios, amigo,' because that's him. That's so typical of Patrick."
And, despite the fact that he died over 15 years ago, Lisa admits that she still feels his presence around her every day.
"His voice is in my head. He makes comments about what I'm doing," Lisa, a strong advocate for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, explained. "When I need a boost or something's going on, I can ask him in my head, and I hear exactly what he's saying, which is generally, ‘Come on, girl, get real.'"
