Hailey Bieber and Justin Bieber have taken legal action against TikToker Julie Theis, sending her a cease-and-desist letter over what they allege are false and defamatory statements about their marriage.
According to a letter dated Jan. 13 and obtained by TMZ, the couple's attorney, Evan Spiegel, accused Theis of posting "outrageous false, fabricated, and defamatory" content about the Biebers on TikTok and Instagram. The letter claims Theis created a narrative portraying the couple's marriage as abusive and linked it to alleged drug addiction.
The legal notice specifically references videos in which Theis discussed relationship dynamics, suggesting that long-term relationships only succeed when women tolerate abuse and emotional labor. In the videos cited, Theis allegedly identified Hailey and Justin Bieber as "the best example" of such a relationship and described Justin as an "addict," further stating that "an addictive partner is always an abusive partner."
In response, the cease-and-desist demands that Theis immediately remove the videos in question and permanently stop publishing content that implies the Biebers are in an abusive relationship. "Your conduct is wrongful, highly damaging, actionable, and exposes you to substantial liability," the letter states. "We demand that you immediately cease and desist from this wrongful and tortious conduct, and remove the Videos."
Theis confirmed on TikTok that she received the cease-and-desist letter and has publicly pushed back against the allegations. She maintains that her videos were not factual claims but rather commentary based on personal opinions about relationship dynamics and power.
In a statement to TMZ, Theis said she was concerned the Biebers were attempting to silence her. "It's extremely elitist to try to silence opinions just because you disagree," she said. "Disagreement is not defamation." She also claimed she has received death threats since the controversy began.
The legal dispute adds to ongoing public scrutiny surrounding the Biebers' relationship, which has frequently been the subject of online speculation. Hailey and Justin married in 2018 and later held a larger wedding celebration in 2019. In 2024, the couple welcomed their first child, a son named Jack Blues.
As of now, representatives for Hailey and Justin Bieber have not issued a public response beyond the cease-and-desist letter. The situation remains unresolved, with Theis standing by her characterization of her content as opinion-based commentary rather than defamatory statements.
