Sydney Sweeney is sharing new insight into her dating preferences and her approach to relationships in a wide-ranging interview with Cosmopolitan, offering rare personal reflections as her romantic life continues to draw public attention.
The 28-year-old actress revealed that her idea of an ideal partner has evolved over time. She described being drawn to someone who is "athletic and outgoing and funny," explaining that an active lifestyle is important to her. Sweeney said she enjoys adventurous activities and wants a partner who is willing to join her, including experiences like climbing mountains or skydiving. She also emphasized that family values matter to her when it comes to long-term compatibility.
Sweeney acknowledged that confidence plays a major role in her relationships, noting that her career and independence can be intimidating. She said she is used to taking control of her life and pursuing what she wants, adding that she does not rely on a relationship for fulfilment. According to the actress, "It takes a very specific person who can handle the world that comes with me," recalling a past connection that ended because the other person felt overwhelmed by her lifestyle and public profile.
The Euphoria star also reflected on her long-term relationship with restaurateur Jonathan Davino, which lasted seven and a half years. The couple became engaged in 2022 but ended their relationship in early 2025. Sweeney explained that she intentionally kept the romance out of the spotlight, saying she was "very private" and believed it was important to preserve parts of her life away from public scrutiny.
Following the breakup, Sweeney has spoken openly about enjoying her independence. She has shared that she has been learning more about herself, spending time with
friends, and embracing being single. During the same period, she launched her lingerie brand, SYRN, signalling a strong focus on her business ventures.
More recently, Sweeney has been linked to music executive Scooter Braun. The two have been spotted together on several outings, including outdoor activities that align with the adventurous traits she described in her interview. While Sweeney has not publicly defined the relationship, their appearances together have fuelled speculation.
Sweeney also admitted that she has reconsidered rigid ideas about her "type," sharing a conversation with her mother that prompted her to stay open-minded about dating. 'The other day, my mom and I were talking about guys, and I was like: "Well, he's not really my type."'
Sweeney's mother then replied '"Well, maybe your type's not working out for you, Syd." Maybe I need to be open to other experiences and try not to put everything in this exact box of what I think I need.'
As she continues navigating her personal life alongside a demanding career, the actress said she is still figuring things out, balancing her desire for new experiences with the realities of living in the public eye.
