The X-Men alum, who played Sabretooth in the famous 2000 picture as well as 2024's Deadpool & Wolverine, revealed that he has breast cancer.
"Yep. I have breast cancer. And, yes, it's quite unusual," Mane captioned a June 8 Instagram video. "Only 1% of breast cancers are men."
Male breast cancer is an uncommon disease that begins with the development of cells in men's breast tissue, according to the Mayo Clinic.
The Troy actor, who married Renae Geerlings in 2007, confessed that his "first reaction was to keep it secret" and that the diagnosis was "kind of embarrassing" because it isn't as frequent in men.
"But then I found out that men are more likely to be diagnosed in advanced stages BECAUSE it's not talked about and not looked for," he said. "In fact, my doctors all dismissed it, and it was only because my wife pushed me to get the lump removed that I got in early."
"So let's start talking about it!" he said. "One in every 755 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, and if detected early, it is VERY curable. It's time to heed the wake-up call!"
Mane (real name Daryl Karolat) has stated that he is undergoing chemotherapy to treat his ailment. One day following his declaration, he provided an update on his therapy.
""I'm on estrogen blockers, but obviously not enough," he remarked in a June 9 Instagram video, noting that the outpouring of support had made him cry "happy tears."
"Day 2 chemo update!" he captioned the video. "Thank you so much for all the love, everyone. I really appreciate it. I received this. "I'm going to kick cancer's ass."
"Thank you for coming along for the journey," he said. "We need to raise awareness. Cancer is terrible, but if you catch it early enough, you can win the battle."
