Lamar Odom is responding to criticism over comments made in his Netflix documentary that sparked a public backlash from ex-wife Khloé Kardashian.

In Untold: The Death & Life of Lamar Odom, which premiered on March 31, the former NBA star reflected on his whirlwind romance with Kardashian. During the documentary, he said he was drawn to the Kardashian family's lifestyle, while his longtime friend Anthony "Pumpkin" Booker claimed Odom told him on the day of the wedding that marrying Kardashian could improve his future because of the family's influence and connections.

The remarks did not sit well with Kardashian, who appeared in the documentary without compensation. Speaking on the April 15 episode of her podcast, Khloé in Wonder Land, she said she was shocked by the suggestion that Odom had married her for fame.

"You're sitting on camera saying you married me for fame? Like, what?" Kardashian said, adding that she regretted participating in the project after spending hours contributing to it.

Now, Odom is pushing back against that interpretation.

During the June 23 episode of Nothing's Off the Table with Louis Ruggiero, the 46-year-old insisted he never claimed he married Kardashian for "clout."

"That never came out of my mouth," Odom said, suggesting the comments may have come from interviews with other people featured in the documentary, including his adult children, Destiny and LJ.

When the show's host pointed out that Odom clearly loved Kardashian, he agreed but maintained that fame was never his motivation.

"Yeah, I did. But I didn't need more clout," he said.

Odom explained that he wanted to set the record straight because he believed the headlines had misrepresented his words. He added that he was already successful before meeting Kardashian and said their relationship developed naturally.

The couple married in 2009 after dating for just one month. They separated in 2013 and finalized their divorce in 2016 after Kardashian famously postponed the proceedings to help Odom during his recovery following a near-fatal overdose.

Despite Odom's latest clarification, Kardashian has made it clear she has no interest in revisiting their past. On her podcast, she criticized his recent interviews, accusing him of refusing to take accountability and attempting to discredit her role in supporting him during one of the darkest periods of his life.

Reflecting on her past relationships, including Odom and former partner Tristan Thompson, Kardashian said those experiences have shaped her outlook on dating, explaining that her focus remains on raising her two children rather than pursuing a new romance.
