Brock Lesnar has officially announced his retirement from professional wrestling, confirming that his match against Oba Femi at WWE SummerSlam marked the end of his remarkable in-ring career.
The 49-year-old made the announcement during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday, saying he has decided to step away from wrestling after more than two decades at the top of the sport.
"I'm here today to let the world and everybody know that I am retired," Lesnar said during the interview.
Reflecting on his final match, Lesnar admitted it was an emotional experience and revealed that he had been thinking about retirement for several months. He said those thoughts first surfaced after his WrestleMania encounter with Oba Femi in April, when he questioned whether he could continue competing.
Although he initially decided to keep wrestling because he felt he still had something left to give, Lesnar said SummerSlam confirmed it was time to bring his career to a close.
"Saturday, for Brock Lesnar, that's it," he said. "That's it for me in the squared circle."
Following the announcement, Lesnar expressed gratitude to the fans who have supported him throughout his career, as well as everyone who played a role in his journey.
He reflected on his upbringing in South Dakota, describing himself as a farm kid with big dreams and a determination to succeed. Lesnar said he feels fortunate to have achieved so much during his career and thanked God and his supporters for helping him reach that point.
The former champion also shared a message for young fans hoping to follow a similar path. He encouraged them to focus on hard work rather than comparing themselves to what they see on social media, saying success comes from dedication and persistence.
Lesnar leaves WWE as one of the most accomplished performers in the company's history. During his career, he captured seven WWE world heavyweight championships and three WWE Universal Championships, establishing himself as one of the most dominant competitors of his generation.
After leaving WWE in 2004, Lesnar briefly pursued a career in professional football and participated in training camp with the Minnesota Vikings, though he never appeared in a regular-season NFL game before eventually returning to wrestling.
His family has also remained in the spotlight. His daughter, Mya Lesnar, has built a following of her own, drawing attention for her athletic achievements and strength after several social media posts went viral in recent years.
