KATSEYE member Sophia Laforteza is temporarily stepping away from the global girl group to focus on her mental health and recovery, nearly six months after fellow member Manon Bannerman also announced a hiatus for health-related reasons.

The announcement was made on Aug. 7 by HYBE x Geffen Records through the group's Weverse page, confirming that the 23-year-old will not participate in upcoming promotional activities after medical professionals recommended she take time to rest.

"We are very sorry to share that Sophia will be temporarily unable to participate in upcoming promotional activities. We understand how much EYEKONS were looking forward to seeing Sophia on stage, but it is imperative that her mental health and wellness are prioritized." The statement read.

It added that, following consultations with doctors, she was advised to take "dedicated time for extended rest and ongoing care to ensure a full recovery."

Although Laforteza was eager to continue performing with the group, the company said her well-being remains the priority. Her condition will be reassessed in September before any decisions are made about her return.

Soon after the announcement, Laforteza addressed fans directly through her Instagram Stories, admitting the decision had been difficult.

"It truly breaks my heart to have to miss out on a lot," she wrote. "You know how much I love being on stage, performing, and sharing these moments with you."

She added that taking a break was necessary despite how much she enjoys performing.

"Making this decision wasn't easy, but I'm learning that health has to come first," Laforteza said. "I'm realizing that if I don't take care of my mind and body now, I won't be able to keep doing what I love the most for so long."

Thanking fans for their support, she promised to focus on her recovery and return stronger. "I promise I'm going to work as hard as I can to get through this, heal properly, and come back stronger," she wrote.

The announcement came just days before KATSEYE's upcoming Wild EP, which is scheduled for release on Aug. 13, ahead of the group's fall tour. Laforteza was also absent from the premiere of the group's KATSEYE: Wild Hearts documentary in Los Angeles, where fellow member Lara Raj told reporters, "She's not feeling well, but she says hi."
