Perez Hilton was treated for an overdose in addition to injuries following a serious incident at his Miami home on August 4, according to a police report obtained by People. The celebrity blogger had engaged in self harm during a livestream that prompted authorities to respond to his residence.
According to the Miami Dade County Sheriff's Office report, Hilton's sister, Barbara Lavandeira, told police that she found her brother in distress inside the home. Concerned for the safety of his three children, who are between eight and 13 years old, she moved them outside and placed them in her vehicle while waiting for help.
The situation remained tense before emergency responders arrived. Police and members of Hilton's family eventually entered the residence and brought him into the living room, where a fire rescue team began treating him for multiple injuries as well as an overdose. He was subsequently transported to hospital for further medical care.
Hilton, whose real name is Mario Lavandeira Jr., remained hospitalized following the incident. His family later said that his condition was serious but stable and that he had suffered significant blood loss and injuries requiring several medical procedures. They also appealed for privacy as he began what they described as a lengthy recovery.
The incident has also prompted concerns surrounding Hilton's children. His mother, Teresita Lavandeira, filed for temporary custody of the children while he remains hospitalized. An attorney representing Hilton said the family's primary concern was protecting the children and providing them with stability and a sense of normalcy following the traumatic events.
Hilton is reportedly being held under Florida's Baker Act, which permits authorities to temporarily detain an individual for mental health evaluation when there are concerns that the person may pose a danger to themselves or others.
The development has placed renewed attention on the importance of immediate support during mental health emergencies. Hilton's family has remained closely involved as he receives treatment, with his loved ones focusing on his recovery and the wellbeing of his children.
As medical professionals continue to treat him, his family has asked the public to respect their privacy. The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under official review, while Hilton's recovery is expected to be a gradual process requiring continued medical and family support.
