Jason Kelce has never been particularly shy about discussing the more unusual chapters of his life, but the former Philadelphia Eagles center recently offered fans a glimpse into a grooming routine from his college football days that left even him questioning his past appearance.
Ahead of his induction into the University of Cincinnati's Hall of Fame, Kelce revisited photographs from his time playing for the Bearcats while speaking on the "New Heights" podcast, which he hosts with his younger brother, Travis Kelce.
Looking at the old photographs, Jason admitted that he strongly disliked the way he looked without his now trademark beard. The former NFL star questioned whether the images really represented what he looked like while shouting during games.
The beard, however, was not the only aspect of his former appearance that attracted his attention. Kelce revealed that during his college years he used the same razor he used on his face to trim his eyebrows.
According to Kelce, the technique resulted in eyebrows that were extremely thin and lacked definition. His current appearance is considerably different, with the full beard becoming such a recognisable part of his image that his wife, Kylie Kelce, has apparently never seen him without it.
Kylie recently admitted that the prospect of Jason shaving his beard would be almost unimaginable to her. Speaking on her "Not Gonna Lie" podcast, she joked that she had never actually met his chin and was curious about whether the reportedly hidden cleft in his chin really existed.
The idea of Jason appearing without facial hair would also come as a major shock to the couple's four daughters, Wyatt, Elliotte, Bennett and Finnley. Kylie joked that the children would likely be stunned by such a dramatic transformation, with at least one of them potentially breaking down in tears.
Jason's beard has become closely associated with his public image since his rise to NFL prominence. His appearance, personality and outspoken character helped establish him as one of American football's most recognisable former players.
His grooming revelation adds another humorous detail to his journey from college athlete to NFL star, media personality and Hall of Fame inductee.
While Jason may now have little interest in returning to his razor heavy eyebrow routine, his comments demonstrate how dramatically personal styles can change over time. For someone whose beard has become almost as recognisable as his football career, the discovery of his former clean shaven look has certainly given fans something new to laugh about.
