The 38-year-old music producer opened up about the idea during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday, Sept. 16. Blanco told host Jimmy Fallon that he had genuinely thought about shaving his hair, but became nervous about what he might discover underneath his curls.
"I was thinking about actually doing it," Blanco said, before wondering what his head might look like without his hair. He joked that he could have "a huge cone in the back" and said he did not know what was hiding beneath his distinctive hairstyle.
Fallon agreed that Blanco should probably stick with his current look, telling him that he did not want to take the risk. Blanco appeared to agree, describing his famously untamed and voluminous hairstyle as a good look for him.
The conversation comes shortly after Blanco played a prank on his followers while promoting his new book, Fck Failure*. In the stunt, the producer appeared to shave part of his head, leaving fans to believe he had dramatically changed his hairstyle.
However, the prank was not as amusing to everyone. Blanco revealed that his mother was particularly shocked when she saw what appeared to be his new haircut. She called him in disbelief and eventually made him FaceTime her because she did not believe his explanation that he had not actually shaved his head.
Blanco said creating the fake haircut took about four hours.
The producer is also approaching his first wedding anniversary with Selena Gomez. The couple will celebrate one year of marriage on Sept. 27.
Gomez recently spoke to PEOPLE about their relationship, describing their first year of marriage as wonderful. She said she appreciates having a partner who genuinely listens to her and meets her where she is, regardless of her mood or what kind of day she is having.
The couple first met as teenagers and later worked together on music before their friendship developed into a romantic relationship in 2023. They collaborated on Gomez's 2025 album, I Said I Love You First, which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and received a Grammy nomination for Best Dance Pop Recording.
For now, Blanco appears to be keeping his curls. After considering the possibility of discovering a surprising head shape underneath them, the producer seems content with the hairstyle that has become part of his signature appearance.
