The stars of " Baby Reindeer" and " The Crown" have emerged as prominent contenders in this year's Emmy Awards nominations. Scottish comedian Richard Gadd, the creative force behind the controversial Netflix series " Baby Reindeer", has secured three nominations for acting, writing, and producing.
His co-stars, Jessica Gunning, who portrays stalker Martha, Nava Mau (Teri), and Tom Goodman-Hill (Darrien), have also been recognized with acting nominations. In total, the series has garnered 11 nominations.
Leading the pack with the most nominations is the Japan-set samurai epic " Shogun" , which has amassed an impressive 25 nominations. Close behind, the comedy series " The Bear" has set a new record for a comedy program with 23 nominations.
In the drama category, Imelda Staunton has been nominated for best lead actress for her portrayal of Elizabeth II in the final series of Netflix's royal drama " The Crown". Her fellow cast members Jonathan Pryce (Prince Philip), Dominic West (the Prince of Wales, Prince Charles), Elizabeth Debicki (Diana, Princess of Wales), and Lesley Manville (Princess Margaret) have also received nominations. Claire Foy, who played Elizabeth II in the first two series, has been nominated for best guest actress for her return in a poignant final scene. Olivia Colman, another former lead actress from " The Crown", has been nominated for her role as Chef Terry in the US restaurant drama " The Bear".
" The Bear" has secured 10 acting nominations, with its stars Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edebiri, and British guest actor Will Poulter being recognized. Other nominated British actors include Idris Elba for " Hijack", Gary Oldman and Jack Lowden for " Slow Horses", Tom Hollander for " Feud", Jonathan Bailey for " Fellow Travelers", Michaela Coel for " Mr. & Mrs. Smith" , Matt Berry for " What We Do in the Shadows" , and Juno Temple for " Fargo".
The murder mystery comedy " Only Murders in the Building" has its central cast members Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez all in contention, along with Meryl Streep, who joined the show for its third season. In the drama category, Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon will face off for their roles in " The Morning Show". Additionally, Jodie Foster and Robert Downey Jr are among the other big names on the nomination shortlists.
The Emmys are regarded as the most prestigious honors in the US TV industry. The winners of this year's awards will be announced on September 15.
