Jensen Ackles, known for his work in both Supernatural and The Boys, is taking center stage in the lead role of Prime Video’s forthcoming action-thriller series Countdown. This much-anticipated 13-episode series, created by Derek Haas (of the Chicago franchise and FBI: International), recently dropped behind-the-scenes images that have set fans and viewers abuzz in excitement.

Countdown stars Ackles as LAPD Officer Mark Meachum, who delves into an obviously suspicious murder committed in broad daylight. The case leads him to a secretive task force composed of undercover agents from various law enforcement branches. As the probe unfolds, the group uncovers a widespread conspiracy that threatens millions in Los Angeles. The series promises action, drama, and suspense; Ackles’ Meachum leads the perilous mission to uncover the truth while managing the internal conflicts of the group.

Adding to Ackles’ lead are Jessica Camacho of S.W.A.T. as Amber Oliveras, Eric Dane from Euphoria, Uli Latukefu from Young Rock, and Elliot Knight from Life Sentence. Shared behind-the-scenes shots by Ackles himself show the camaraderie of the cast through snapshots of rehearsals and action sequences on-site, lightening the mood, that points to great off-screen chemistry which may pay off when translating into dynamic storytelling.

The series is the first for Derek Haas under his new exclusive deal with Amazon MGM Studios. Ackles, who has a first-look deal with the studio via his production company Chaos Machine Productions, has developed Countdown into a starring vehicle as he plots a course in his post-The Boys career.

Prime Video has great momentum going when it comes to action dramas, such as Reacher and The Terminal List. Countdown looks like it's about to keep that going, with Ackles’ performance as Meachum described as a great combination of the grit and intensity he’s brought to his past roles. The series leans heavily into his prior experience playing an investigator on Supernatural, though Meachum is a more earthbound, by-the-book kind of character.

With no premiere date announced as of now, its high-octane action, ensemble cast, and gripping storyline have sent the show flying high on expectations. Fans are just waiting for more updates and a trailer to see the tension and thrills Countdown promises.
