Marvel's cinematic universe continues to expand with the addition of "Stranger Things" star Sadie Sink to the upcoming "Spider-Man 4" film. The 22-year-old actress has been cast in what Deadline describes as a "significant" role alongside Tom Holland, who returns as the web-slinging superhero.

Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios have kept plot details under wraps for the fourth installment. The film follows 2021's blockbuster "Spider-Man: No Way Home," which concluded with Peter Parker making the difficult decision to erase his identity from the world's memory, including from his girlfriend MJ (Zendaya) and best friend Ned (Jacob Batalon).

"The idea is crazy. It's a little different to anything we've done before, but I think the fans are gonna really respond to it," Holland revealed during a Good Morning America appearance last year.

"Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" director Destin Daniel Cretton will helm the project, taking over from Jon Watts who directed the previous three films. Erik Sommers and Chris McKenna have penned the screenplay for the upcoming feature.

While Sink's character remains unconfirmed, speculation has emerged about possible roles. Deadline hinted she could potentially portray X-Men mutant Jean Grey, previously played by Famke Janssen and Sophie Turner. One fan commented online, "My money is on her portraying Gwen Stacey and carrying the Spider-Man mantle."

"No Way Home" dramatically altered the Spider-Man universe by breaking open the multiverse, allowing for Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's Spider-Men to appear alongside Holland. The film grossed a staggering $1.9 billion globally, cementing its place as one of the highest-grossing films in the franchise.

Sink rose to fame through her role as Max Mayfield in Netflix's "Stranger Things," which recently wrapped production on its fifth and final season. Her career has gained momentum with appearances in Taylor Swift's "All Too Well: The Short Film" alongside Dylan O'Brien.

The young actress has several upcoming projects including the Searchlight musical "O'Dessa," which premiered at SXSW. Additionally, she will make her Broadway debut this April in "John Proctor Is the Villain."

"Spider-Man 4" is scheduled to swing into theaters on July 31, 2026, continuing the successful collaboration between Sony Pictures and Disney's Marvel Cinematic Universe.
