Fans of the hit Netflix legal drama The Lincoln Lawyer are preparing to say goodbye as the streaming platform has confirmed that the upcoming fifth season will officially be the show’s last. The series, which stars Manuel Garcia Rulfo as defense attorney Mickey Haller, is currently filming in Los Angeles and will conclude with what producers describe as a satisfying ending for the beloved character.
The announcement marks the end of a successful journey for the series, especially considering the show almost never made it to Netflix. Originally developed for CBS, the project was scrapped during the pandemic before eventually finding a new home on Netflix, where it quickly became one of the platform’s standout legal dramas.
Series developer and co showrunner Ted Humphrey alongside co showrunner Dailyn Rodriguez released a heartfelt statement addressing the conclusion of the series. According to the producers, the goal from the beginning was not only to tell Mickey Haller’s story but also to give the character a proper conclusion instead of leaving the story unfinished.
They described the ending as bittersweet but also an opportunity to close the journey in the right way while possibly opening the door for future stories involving some of the characters. The producers also thanked Netflix, A plus E Studios, and fans around the world for supporting the show across its run.
Season 5 will consist of 10 episodes and is inspired by “Resurrection Walk,” the seventh book in Michael Connelly’s Lincoln Lawyer series. The new season will follow Mickey Haller as his life is shaken by the arrival of Emi, a half sister he never knew existed. Emi, played by Cobie Smulders, seeks Mickey’s help in freeing a woman she believes was wrongfully convicted of murder.
As Mickey investigates the case, he uncovers corruption, buried family secrets, and dangerous forces working against him. The season will also spotlight the challenges faced by his close team including Lorna, Izzy, and Cisco, played by Becki Newton, Jazz Raycole, and Angus Sampson respectively.
Netflix also revealed several new recurring cast members joining the final season. These include Tricia Helfer, Nate Corddry, Amy Aquino, Angela Trimbur, Elpidia Carrillo, and Keir O’Donnell. They join an already packed lineup featuring returning and newly announced guest stars including Neve Campbell, Chris Diamantopoulos, Corbin Bernsen, and Diane Guerrero among others.
Beyond its popularity with viewers, the show has also made a major economic impact in California. Netflix estimates that the first four seasons contributed more than $425 million to the Californian economy, employed over 4,300 cast and crew members, and filmed in more than 50 locations across Los Angeles including Dodger Stadium and Grand Central Market.
Since 2023, the series has spent 29 weeks on Netflix’s Global Top 10 charts and accumulated 171 million views. Its fourth season opened with 9 million views during its debut weekend, surpassing the third season’s 7 million opening performance.
As production continues on the final season, fans are now waiting to see how Mickey Haller’s journey will come to an end in one of Netflix’s most successful courtroom dramas.
