At 47, WWE star John Cena has no intention of slowing down his fitness regimen anytime soon. The actor and professional wrestler recently discussed his lifelong commitment to health and fitness in an exclusive interview , revealing how his workout goals have evolved over the years.

Once focused on daily strength and aesthetics, Cena’s approach to fitness has shifted with age. “When I was a young 12-year-old, it was to look muscular so I couldn’t get beat up. And then as a late teen, it was to be strong so I could play sports,” Cena recalls. By his 20s, his goal was to maintain discipline through physical appearance. After starting his wrestling career in 1998, his focus turned to being an exceptionally strong entertainer.

Today, Cena’s objective is longevity. “At 47 now, my goal is to be physically active until I can’t. I put a number in my head of like, I’d like to be physically active into my late 80s or 90s. To do a parallel squat in my late 80s,” he shares.

Cena’s current workout routine includes four days of weight training and three days focused on mobility and flexibility. He acknowledges that his approach has mellowed over the years, aiming for sustainability rather than intensity. “My training used to be based on every single day, be the strongest you can for that day. Now I have my eyes set 40 years down the road,” Cena says.

Despite his upcoming WWE retirement, Cena emphasizes that fitness remains integral to his life. “Fitness was a part of my life long before the WWE journey started,” he stresses. “Fitness will be a part of my life, hopefully as long as my heart’s beating.”

Cena also reflects on his overall well-being, attributing his peak health to consistency and making good choices. “I feel as if I am operating at my best when I talk about health,” he admits. “Graduating from Springfield College, their ethos was ‘Spirit, mind, and body.’ It’s not just how you look, it’s how you think, and also what’s on the inside.”

As part of his dedication to fitness, Cena has teamed up with MET-Rx for their “MET-Rx Flex” campaign, encouraging people to showcase their skills and achievements. “We want people to be active and show us their MET-Rx Flex,” Cena explains. “Through my TikTok accounts, I’m going to shout these people out and hopefully get them some extra recognition that they’ve earned.”

With a career spanning 23 years, Cena remains a beacon of fitness and inspiration, proving that dedication and smart choices are key to a long and healthy life.
