Primavera Sound in Barcelona has been thrown into chaos after severe weather forced the last-minute cancellation of several headline performances, leaving thousands of festival goers frustrated and confused. Organisers confirmed that acts including Massive Attack, Doja Cat and Bad Gyal were unable to perform due to safety concerns linked to strong winds and heavy rain.

Earlier cancellations affected Alex G and Mac DeMarco, whose sets were also scrapped after a yellow weather warning escalated. Wind speeds reportedly reached up to 80 kilometres per hour, making it unsafe for stage crews and equipment to operate.

Festival organisers apologised, stating that while they worked closely with artists' teams to salvage performances, conditions made it impossible to guarantee safety. They later confirmed that no serious incidents occurred and all protocols were followed.

Despite the explanation, many attendees said communication during the event was unclear. Some fans reported receiving vague notifications through the festival app without detailed updates, leading to widespread confusion inside the venue.

One attendee said he only learned about cancellations through social media updates and artist livestreams. He described the situation as disorganised and said the lack of clear information led to rumours spreading among crowds.

Another festival goer said she spent hours in the rain without seeing any performances, calling the experience exhausting and poorly managed. She compared it to other festivals she had attended where weather contingency plans were more structured and visible.

Organisers have announced refunds for Thursday tickets, with further details expected to be released. They also emphasised that safety decisions were made in coordination with weather authorities and technical teams.

Despite the setbacks, the festival continues with a packed lineup for the remaining days, including performances from The Cure, Addison Rae and PinkPantheress. Organisers are hoping improved weather conditions will allow the event to proceed smoothly.

While anticipation remains high, many fans say the opening day has already affected the overall experience, turning what was expected to be a celebratory weekend into a test of patience, endurance and waterproof clothing.
