The Los Angeles Dodgers are now just one game away from winning their second World Series in five years after a strong 4-2 victory over the New York Yankees in Game 3 of the series, giving them a commanding 3-0 lead. The Dodgers showcased their dominance in Yankee Stadium, outperforming the Yankees both at the plate and on the mound to secure a significant win in the best-of-seven series.
The Dodgers started strong with an early lead in the first inning. Shohei Ohtani, despite a shoulder injury from Game 2, walked to first base, and Freddie Freeman followed with a powerful home run, his third of the series, putting the Dodgers up 2-0. Mookie Betts then drove in Tommy Edman, extending the Dodgers' lead to 3-0. Yankees starting pitcher Clarke Schmidt was unable to contain the Dodgers' firepower and was pulled from the game before the end of the third inning.
The Yankees struggled offensively, managing their first hit only in the fourth inning with a double from Giancarlo Stanton. However, Stanton's attempt to score on an Anthony Volpe line drive was thwarted by a precise throw from Teoscar Hernandez in left field. The Dodgers kept the pressure on, and by the sixth inning, they scored again as Gavin Lux stole second and was batted in by Enrique Hernandez, bringing the score to 4-0.
Despite a two-run homer from Alex Verdugo in the ninth, the Yankees couldn't close the gap, ending the game at 4-2. With their backs against the wall, the Yankees must win the next game to avoid a sweep. Historically, no team has come back from a 3-0 deficit in the World Series, adding to the challenge the Yankees face as they prepare for Game 4 in front of their home crowd.
