Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce is not concerned about his slow start to the 2024 NFL season. The four-time All-Pro and nine-time Pro Bowl selection has managed just eight catches for 69 yards across three games, but as long as the team keeps winning, he remains unfazed. On his podcast, New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce, the 34-year-old discussed how opposing defenses have been focusing heavily on him, limiting his opportunities to make big plays.
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes echoed this sentiment, noting the immense respect defenses have for Kelce, often sending two or three players his way. While Kelce thrives on making plays, his main priority is team success. "I'm not worried about the catches and the yards," Kelce said, emphasizing that his focus is on winning games rather than personal stats.
Kelce's dedication to the Chiefs' success is clear. In 2023, he led the team with 93 receptions for 984 yards and five touchdowns, even sitting out the final game of the season to ensure his health for the playoffs. Despite his quieter start this season, Kelce remains a key part of the team's strategy.
Kansas City, currently 3-0, has benefitted from the emergence of wide receiver Rashee Rice, who leads the team in receptions and receiving yards. As the Chiefs prepare to face the Los Angeles Chargers, Kelce's veteran presence and leadership will continue to be invaluable as the team aims to remain undefeated.
