The Iron Dames project has been making waves in the world of motorsports, showcasing female talent and determination across various disciplines. Let’s dive into their exciting lineups and recent achievements:
First is the IMSA Endurance Cup: Lamborghini Dominance. The Iron Dames fielded a Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2 in the IMSA Endurance Cup. The trio of Sarah Bovy, Michelle Gatting, and Rahel Frey started the 2024 championship with a strong performance at the 24 Hours of Daytona, finishing sixth in class. Notably, they were the only Lamborghini team to complete the grueling 24-hour race, significantly improving upon last year’s result.
FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC): Porsche Power. In the WEC, the Iron Dames switched to a Porsche 911 RSR-19. Last year’s lineup included Rahel Frey, but due to classification changes, Michelle Gatting replaced her as the “Gold” driver. The talented trio now consists of Sarah Bovy, Michelle Gatting, and Doriane Pin. With F1 Academy racer Doriane Pin and the consistently fast bronze driver Sarah Bovy, this lineup promises to be among the fastest in class.
The Iron Dames crew achieved a historic win in the ELMS at the 4 Hours of Portimão. Sarah Bovy secured pole position, becoming the first woman to achieve this feat in ELMS history. The pink Ferrari 488 GTE Evo, driven by Doriane Pin and Michelle Gatting, built up a two-lap lead, securing their maiden WEC class victory. This victory also earned them an invitation to the 24 Hours of Le Mans Centenary in 2023.
The Iron Dames project isn’t just about winning races; it’s about inspiring women to follow their dreams. Project founder Deborah Mayer emphasizes motivation, determination, and strong performance. The Iron Dames prove that women can excel in motorsport, sending a powerful message of passion and possibility.
As the Iron Dames continue to break barriers and achieve historic wins, they remind us that dreams are within reach, and with determination, anything is possible. Whether it’s endurance racing, GT championships, or rallying, these talented women are leaving their mark on the track and inspiring the next generation of female racers.
