Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc has committed his future to the Italian team after agreeing to a new long term contract extension that will keep him at the Scuderia for the coming seasons.

The announcement comes ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix, one of the most significant races on the Formula One calendar and Leclerc’s home event. The 28 year old Monegasque driver expressed his delight at continuing with the team that has played a central role in his racing career since his teenage years.

Leclerc joined the Ferrari Driver Academy in 2016 and quickly established himself as one of the sport’s brightest prospects. After winning the Formula 2 championship in 2017, he made his Formula One debut with Sauber before earning promotion to Ferrari in 2019. Since then, he has become one of the team’s most important figures and one of the most recognizable drivers on the grid.

In a statement following the announcement, Leclerc described Ferrari as much more than just a racing team.

“I couldn’t be happier to continue this journey with Scuderia Ferrari HP,” he said. “It has always been so much more than just a team to me. It’s the team I’ve loved and dreamt of being part of since I was a child, and after all these years it has become a second family.”

The Ferrari driver added that despite the highs and lows experienced over the years, his belief in the team remains stronger than ever. He emphasized his determination to help bring the Formula One World Championship back to Maranello, the home of Ferrari.

Leclerc has competed in 155 races for Ferrari since joining the team and has secured eight Grand Prix victories. He currently sits third in the drivers’ championship and remains one of the most highly regarded talents in Formula One. His qualifying speed has become one of his greatest strengths, with 27 pole positions to his name, a figure that places him second on Ferrari’s all time list behind only Michael Schumacher.

His record at the Monaco Grand Prix is particularly impressive. Over the past six years, Leclerc has qualified on pole position three times, started second twice and third once, underlining his exceptional speed on the narrow streets of Monte Carlo.

Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur welcomed the contract extension, describing it as a natural step for both parties. He praised Leclerc’s development not only as a driver but also as a person who fully embodies Ferrari’s values and culture.

“Charles has been part of the Ferrari family for many years now and this renewal feels like something very natural for us,” Vasseur said. “We appreciate his talent, we love his determination and the way he approaches every day with the people in the Scuderia, both on and off the track.”

The contract extension reflects Ferrari’s confidence in Leclerc as a cornerstone of its future. It also comes at a time when the Formula One driver market could become increasingly competitive, making the retention of one of the sport’s elite talents a major achievement for the team.

Although Leclerc’s ultimate dream of winning a world championship with Ferrari remains unfulfilled, his renewed commitment demonstrates his continued faith in the project. Having spent nearly a decade associated with Ferrari through its academy and Formula One team, he remains determined to achieve the success that both he and the passionate Ferrari supporters, known as the tifosi, have long been chasing.

For Leclerc, the dream is still very much alive, and his latest contract ensures that the pursuit of Formula One glory with Ferrari will continue for years to come.
