Wayne Rooney has been dismissed as Plymouth Argyle manager after just 25 matches in charge, with the club languishing at the bottom of the Championship table. The 39-year-old former England and Manchester United captain departs following a challenging seven-month tenure marked by poor results and personal struggles.

Rooney, appointed in May, managed only five wins during his stint, with Plymouth suffering 13 league defeats and enduring a nine-match winless streak. His final game, a 2-0 loss to relegation rivals Oxford United, sealed his fate. The club announced his departure, along with assistants Mike Phelan and Simon Ireland, in a statement thanking the coaching team for their efforts.

Rooney expressed gratitude to the club, staff, players, and fans, stating, "Plymouth Argyle will always hold a special place in my heart." Despite his appreciation for the opportunity, this latest setback raises questions about his future in management. Rooney has overseen 178 matches across roles at Derby County, DC United, Birmingham City, and Plymouth, recording only 45 wins against 87 losses.

Beyond the pitch, concerns about Rooney's lifestyle reportedly added to the pressure. Living away from his family in Cheshire, he was frequently seen in Plymouth's pubs and bars, participating in quiz and karaoke nights. Locals noted his fondness for the city's famous pasties, with some observing he had "put on weight." His bachelor lifestyle reportedly caused concern for his wife, Coleen, who had been managing their family while participating in reality TV.

A recent video circulating online further fueled speculation. The footage appeared to show Rooney giving a woman a tour of his apartment after a night out. Rooney denied the claims, insisting the woman and her partner had only given him a lift home and briefly visited. He criticized media outlets for editing the footage to suggest otherwise.

Despite his struggles in management, Rooney remains a high-profile figure, with broadcasters reportedly eager to offer him punditry roles. However, his challenges at Plymouth highlight the difficulties of transitioning from a celebrated playing career to consistent managerial success.

Plymouth, now at the bottom of the table, faces an uphill battle to avoid relegation as the club seeks new leadership to turn their season around.
