Reports of Elon Musk's interest in purchasing Liverpool FC have been dismissed by Fenway Sports Group (FSG), the club's current owners, who have reiterated that they have no intention of selling. Despite recent claims by Musk's father, Errol Musk, about his son's desire to buy the club, insiders and journalists have confirmed that no formal discussions have occurred.

FSG, which acquired Liverpool in 2010, briefly explored a potential sale in 2022. However, Reds chairman Tom Werner later confirmed those plans were abandoned. Rumors about Musk's interest resurfaced when Errol Musk mentioned in an interview that the billionaire "would like to" buy Liverpool, citing a family connection to the city and a historical attachment to the Beatles. "His grandmother was born in Liverpool, and we have relatives there," Errol Musk said.

The speculation has been met with concern from Liverpool fans, given Musk's controversial political leanings and divisive public statements. On social media, many fans expressed relief when reliable sources dismissed the rumors. Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol stated, "Liverpool are not for sale. The owners have not received any offers or approaches from anyone, including Elon Musk." Similarly, The Times journalist Matt Lawton confirmed FSG's lack of interest in discussing a sale, describing the Musk rumors as a non-serious proposition.

Musk's father added to the intrigue by stating, "Oh yes, he would like to [buy Liverpool], but that doesn't mean he's buying it." He further emphasized the family's affinity for Liverpool but clarified that any potential purchase was far from imminent.

FSG has faced criticism from certain sections of Liverpool's fanbase for perceived underinvestment in the squad. However, their tenure has also brought notable achievements, including a 33% increase in Anfield's capacity, the construction of a state-of-the-art training facility, and sustained on-pitch success.

With Liverpool valued at approximately £4.3 billion, Musk's potential purchase would represent just over 1% of his estimated net worth. While money might not be a barrier for the world's richest man, the cultural mismatch between Musk's political ideology and Liverpool's socialist roots makes such a takeover unlikely. For now, FSG appears committed to maintaining ownership, ensuring the club's identity remains intact.
