Manchester City have made a statement of intent in the January transfer window, breaking their club-record transfer fee to acquire Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt for a staggering €70 million (£59 million).
The 25-year-old, renowned for his blistering pace and clinical finishing, has penned a long-term deal until 2029, with potential add-ons taking the total cost to £63 million. Marmoush's arrival comes after a sensational season in Germany, where he netted 15 goals in just 17 Bundesliga games, second only to Bayern Munich's Harry Kane.
"Manchester City is one of the biggest clubs in the world," Marmoush enthused. "It's an incredible honor for me and my family. This is a dream come true."
City have also strengthened their defense with the acquisitions of Brazilian teenager Vitor Reis from Palmeiras and Uzbek international Abdukodir Khusanov from Lens.
Marmoush, a versatile attacker capable of playing across the front line, brings a potent mix of speed, skill, and a winning mentality. "I always want to win," he declared.
City's director of football, Txiki Begiristain, lauded Marmoush's "outstanding pace and awareness," highlighting his versatility as a key asset.
The Egyptian forward joins a star-studded squad, providing much-needed support to Erling Haaland. Manager Pep Guardiola acknowledged the need to refresh his squad earlier this season, and the signing of Marmoush addresses the need for another prolific goal scorer.
While Marmoush won't be eligible for the upcoming Champions League clash with Club Brugge, he could make his debut as early as Saturday against Chelsea. This move signals City's ambition to maintain their dominance both domestically and in Europe.
With Marmoush in their ranks, Manchester city will be looking to make a comeback after their humiliating loss to PSG in the champions league which leaves the club on the brink of elimination with just one game to go.
