The club confirmed that the offensive content has been reported to the relevant authorities, and an investigation is underway. Shaw, a 28-year-old Jamaican international, chose not to make the abusive messages public to avoid giving attention to the perpetrators.
In an official statement, Manchester City condemned the abuse, stating, "Discrimination of any kind, whether in stadiums or online, is completely unacceptable and has no place in or outside the sport. Bunny has decided against sharing the messages to prevent giving publicity to those responsible. We are fully supporting Bunny during this difficult time and will cooperate with authorities to ensure a thorough investigation."
Shaw marked her 100th appearance for Manchester City in Sunday's match, coming on as a substitute. Throughout her tenure with the club, she has scored an impressive 86 goals and has been named the Club's Player of the Year for the past two seasons.
The match itself was a thrilling encounter. Arsenal took an early 2-0 lead with goals from Mariona Caldentey and Lotte Wubben-Moy. Manchester City responded through Mary Fowler, who pulled one back before halftime. The second half saw Vivianne Miedema equalize, but Frida Maanum restored Arsenal's lead shortly after. Fowler completed her brace to level the score again, but Stina Blackstenius netted the decisive goal, securing the win for Arsenal.
This victory propelled Arsenal to second place in the WSL standings, two points ahead of Manchester City and seven points behind leaders Chelsea, who have a game in hand against Aston Villa.
The two teams will face off again on Thursday night at the Mangata Pay UK Stadium in Borehamwood for the semi-final of the Subway Women's League Cup. Both clubs will be eager to secure a spot in the final, with City also looking to bounce back from the recent defeat amid the ongoing investigation into the abuse directed at Shaw.
