On Thursday, Turkish champions Galatasaray completed the historic signing of Napoli striker Victor Osimhen after presenting the player on Wednesday evening, spending a Super Lig record €75 million to bring the Nigerian star back to the club on a long-term deal.
After lengthy negotiations with Napoli officials in Milan to finalise the deal, the clubs eventually agreed on an overall package, obliterating the previous Turkish record, which stood at around €20 million following Youssef En Nesyri’s move to Fenerbahce last summer.
Despite reported interest from several other European sides as well as Saudi Arabian outfit Al Hilal, Osimhen decided he wanted to return to Galatasaray. Osimhen had a remarkable 2024/25 season individually, finishing as the league’s top scorer with 26 goals, while breaking the Turkish record for most goals scored in a single campaign by a foreign player (36).
Before that, Osimhen spent four seasons at Napoli, in which he helped the Italian outfit win their first Serie A crown in 33 years during the 2022/23 campaign, scoring 26 goals and registering four assists.
However, after falling out with the club the following year, he was left in limbo, with Galatasaray taking advantage to seal a loan deal for the 2024/25 season.
The fans fell in love with him during his stint, and he now returns to Istanbul to continue his journey, with the opportunity to make a seismic mark on Turkish football.
