Pep Guardiola has expressed his desire for Bernardo Silva to remain at Manchester City until the end of his career, though he emphasized that the final decision rests entirely with the player.

Speculation about Silva's future has intensified in recent days. Assistant coach Pep Lijnders recently suggested that the Portuguese midfielder's long spell at the club could be nearing its conclusion, noting that every successful chapter eventually comes to an end. Silva, who is 31, is approaching the end of his current contract and has been linked with potential moves to top European sides such as FC Barcelona and Juventus, as well as clubs in Major League Soccer.

Despite the growing rumors, Guardiola indicated that no final decision has been communicated to him. Speaking candidly, he joked about asking Silva to inform him first if he had made up his mind, but admitted that the midfielder has yet to share any update regarding his plans.

Lijnders made his comments following City's emphatic FA Cup quarter final victory over Liverpool FC, a match in which Guardiola was absent from the touchline due to a suspension. He acknowledged that replacing a player of Silva's unique qualities would be extremely difficult, adding that no two players are truly alike. He also expressed hope that Silva would enjoy the remainder of his time at the club if he does decide to leave.

Silva joined Manchester City in 2017 from French side AS Monaco and has since become a central figure in the team. He recently marked his 450th appearance for the club during an EFL Cup match against Arsenal FC. Last summer, he was appointed club captain following the departure of Kevin De Bruyne.

Guardiola praised Silva's qualities, noting that while he may not fit the typical profile of a physically dominant or highly prolific player, his value lies in his competitiveness, consistency, and influence during key moments. He described Silva as a player with relentless drive and reliability on the biggest stages.

The manager reiterated his admiration, stating that Silva has been an exceptional signing and a vital part of the team's success. While he would welcome the chance for Silva to remain and end his career at the club, Guardiola acknowledged that the decision ultimately belongs to the player and will be respected regardless of the outcome.
