Gerard Piqué has been handed a six-match suspension along with a two-month ban from official football activities by the Royal Spanish Football Federation following a confrontation with a referee.

The incident occurred after FC Andorra, where Piqué is co-owner, suffered a 1-0 defeat to Albacete. Tensions escalated after the final whistle, leading to a heated exchange between Piqué and match official Alonso de Ena Wolf.

In his official report, the referee stated that Piqué made remarks suggesting he should leave with an escort for his safety and implied that in another country he might have been physically attacked. The comments were deemed inappropriate and were included as part of the disciplinary review.

Following an investigation, the federation's disciplinary committee ruled that Piqué's conduct violated standards of sporting integrity and decorum. The two-month suspension was issued on the grounds that his actions publicly undermined respect for the game and its officials. In addition, the six-match ban relates to behavior categorized as involving minor aggression toward referees.

The disciplinary measures extended beyond Piqué. Ferran Vilaseca, president of FC Andorra, received a four-month suspension, while sporting director Jaume Nogués was also sanctioned for his involvement in the altercation.

FC Andorra currently sit mid-table in Spain's second division, and the incident adds further pressure on the club as it navigates the remainder of the season.

Piqué, who retired from professional football in 2022, enjoyed a highly decorated playing career with Barcelona and the Spain national football team. During his time on the pitch, he won nine La Liga titles and three UEFA Champions League trophies, as well as international honors including the 2010 World Cup and the 2012 European Championship.

The sanctions highlight the governing body's firm stance on maintaining discipline and respect toward match officials, reinforcing expectations for conduct both on and off the field.
