Khadija Shaw delivered a stunning performance as Manchester City produced a dramatic comeback to defeat Chelsea and secure a place in the Women's FA Cup final after an unforgettable contest at Stamford Bridge
The Jamaican striker, who has been at the centre of transfer speculation this week with Chelsea reportedly interested in signing her when her contract expires, responded in the best possible way by producing the defining moments of the match.
For much of the afternoon, Chelsea appeared firmly in control and looked on course for another FA Cup final appearance. Goals from Sam Kerr and Erin Cuthbert gave the hosts a deserved 2-0 advantage, while City struggled to match Chelsea's intensity and attacking sharpness for large periods of the game.
However, everything changed in the closing moments. With only four minutes remaining in normal time, substitute Mary Fowler pulled one back to give City a lifeline. The comeback was not complete yet. In the 103rd minute, Shaw struck again, heading in the winning goal to complete one of the most remarkable turnarounds of the season and send the newly crowned Women's Super League champions into the final.
Chelsea pushed desperately for another equaliser in the closing stages of extra time and came agonisingly close when Sjoeke Nusken's header was brilliantly tipped onto the crossbar by goalkeeper Khiara Keating. The save proved decisive as City held on to cap off a memorable week that had already included sealing their first league title in a decade.
The match carried extra emotion due to the uncertainty surrounding Shaw's future. Chelsea supporters had even chanted about seeing her in blue next season, only for the striker to silence them with the late equaliser and eventual winner. After scoring in stoppage time, Shaw sprinted toward the City fans and celebrated passionately, clearly releasing the emotion of the occasion.
