The move gives the former Iowa standout a chance to continue her professional career after playing for three different teams since entering the league in 2024. Martin appeared in 17 games for Los Angeles before her release.
Chicago announced the signing on Wednesday, shortly after Martin revealed that she had also agreed to join Unrivaled, the three-on-three basketball league founded by WNBA stars Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier.
Martin is perhaps best known to fans for her connection with Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark. The pair were teammates at Iowa from 2020 through 2024 before entering the WNBA draft together.
Clark was selected first overall in the 2024 draft, while Martin was picked 18th overall by the Las Vegas Aces. Martin spent her rookie season in Las Vegas before becoming a member of the Golden State Valkyries through the expansion draft.
She played 42 games for Golden State, averaging 16.4 minutes per game while recording 6.2 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.0 assist. However, the Valkyries waived her in May.
Just three days later, Martin joined the Los Angeles Sparks on a developmental contract. She was later moved to a standard contract in July and went on to appear in 17 games for the team.
Her opportunities were more limited in Los Angeles compared with her time in Golden State. Martin averaged 7.1 minutes per game with the Sparks, finishing with 2.3 points, 1.1 rebounds and fewer than one assist per contest.
Martin will now look to establish herself in Chicago as she continues her WNBA journey. The Sky are currently on a break from league action because of international competition and are scheduled to return on Sept. 17, when they host the Washington Mystics.
Her Chicago move also comes as she prepares for her next chapter with Unrivaled. Martin has agreed to a multi-year deal with the league, giving her another platform to compete during the WNBA offseason.
The developmental contract provides Martin with another opportunity to remain within the WNBA after stops with Las Vegas, Golden State and Los Angeles.
For the former Iowa captain, the move to Chicago represents another chance to prove herself and carve out a bigger role as she continues building her professional basketball career.
