A woman named Myra Carvalho, aged 35, has been sentenced to 14 weeks in prison and handed a 10-year restraining order after being convicted of stalking the British singer Harry Styles.
Carvalho, who appeared at Harrow Crown Court in London, was found guilty of sending Styles 8,000 cards within a span of less than a month, causing serious distress to the 30-year-old pop star. The court also prohibited Carvalho from attending any events where Styles performs and barred her from contacting him directly or indirectly.
Carvalho, a Brazilian national, arrived in the UK in December without the knowledge of her family. She had been staying at a backpacker hostel in Kensington and Chelsea, south west London. The stalking involved both handwritten letters and ordered cards, with some being wedding cards and two being hand-delivered to Styles' address. Carvalho admitted to the charge of stalking involving serious alarm or distress and was further instructed not to enter a specific area in north west London.
This is not the first time Styles has been targeted by stalkers. In 2019, he faced another ordeal when Diana Tarazaga-Orero persistently pursued him, even breaking a restraining order by barging into his home in 2022. Styles expressed feeling scared and had to upgrade his security measures following the incidents.
Carvalho's actions significantly disrupted Styles' daily life, with the court hearing that she had described sexual urges towards him in the cards she sent. The stalking occurred after Styles returned from a romantic vacation with his girlfriend, Taylor Russell. In addition to her jail sentence and restraining order, Carvalho was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £134.
