As the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics draw near, speculation is swirling about potential star-studded performances at the opening ceremony. Recent sightings of Lady Gaga in the French capital have set tongues wagging, with fans theorizing that the pop icon may be gearing up for a show-stopping appearance.
On July 22, just days before the Games' kick-off, the 38-year-old singer was spotted arriving in Paris. Fan-captured footage shared on social media showed Gaga, clad in a black leather jacket and sunglasses, greeting admirers from her car. Another video depicted her discreetly leaving her hotel, fueling rumors of possible rehearsals.
These sightings coincide with cryptic teasers from official Olympic accounts. On July 19, a mysterious video featuring an armored figure was posted, promising viewers they "haven't seen anything yet" and to tune in on July 26.
While Gaga's involvement remains unconfirmed, the buzz surrounding her presence underscores the anticipation building for the Games' opening spectacle. This year's ceremony breaks tradition, taking place along the Seine River rather than in a stadium – a first in Olympic history.
Thomas Jolly, the artistic director for the opening and closing ceremonies, has remained tight-lipped about the line-up. When pressed by the Associated Press, he playfully deflected, saying, "I'll be fired if I tell you anything," before adding that the performances will be "very meaningful for the artists."
Gaga isn't the only star rumored to be part of the festivities. French-Malian R&B artist Aya Nakamura is widely expected to perform, despite facing criticism from far-right politicians. Canadian icon Celine Dion has also been spotted in Paris, sparking speculation about her potential involvement.
Not everyone is joining the party, however. French electronic duo Daft Punk reportedly declined an invitation, while DJ David Guetta expressed disappointment at being overlooked.
The opening ceremony promises to be a grand affair, with 6,000-7,000 athletes set to sail down a 6-kilometer stretch of the Seine on 85 boats. This unique procession will travel from the Austerlitz bridge to the iconic Eiffel Tower, offering a stunning backdrop for what's sure to be an unforgettable event.
As Paris prepares to welcome the world, the air is thick with excitement and secrecy. Whether Lady Gaga graces the stage or not, one thing is certain – the City of Light is ready to shine brighter than ever as it hosts the Olympic Games.
