In a thrilling turn of events at Comic-Con 2024, Marvel fans were treated to unexpected appearances and a series of surprises during the panel for “Deadpool & Wolverine.” Held at the iconic Hall H in San Diego, the event celebrated the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s latest film with a special screening, followed by a panel that left fans ecstatic.
The most jaw-dropping moment came when Chris Evans, known for his iconic role as Captain America, took the stage not as Steve Rogers but as Johnny Storm, his character from the 2005 “Fantastic Four” movie. This marked Evans’s first return to the character in 17 years, creating a nostalgic full-circle moment for fans and the actor alike.
Evans was joined onstage by a lineup of stars reprising their roles from Marvel’s pre-MCU era, including Jennifer Garner, Dafne Keen, Channing Tatum, and Wesley Snipes. Garner, who played Elektra in 2003’s “Daredevil” and its 2005 spin-off “Elektra,” wore a striking red dress reminiscent of her character’s iconic outfit. Tatum, once slated to play Gambit, sported a t-shirt nodding to the character, while Snipes, known for his portrayal of Blade, was introduced by Ryan Reynolds as “my good friend.”
Reynolds, who stars as Deadpool, led the panel alongside Hugh Jackman (Wolverine), Emma Corrin, director Shawn Levy, and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige. The gathering was more than just a celebration of “Deadpool & Wolverine”; it was a nostalgic reunion of beloved characters from Marvel’s cinematic history.
Feige expressed his excitement, calling it “one of the best movie experiences of my life,” a sentiment echoed by Reynolds and Jackman. “For me, that was one of the most incredible experiences of my life,” Jackman shared. “It’s been 24 years since I first played Wolverine. Thank you, everyone.”
“Deadpool & Wolverine” has resurrected former Marvel characters, bridging the gap between the MCU and its predecessors. The film’s playful embrace of the past, combined with a promise of a new direction for Marvel’s mutants, suggests an exciting future for the franchise. The film is now playing in theaters, offering fans a unique blend of nostalgia and fresh storytelling.
