Sofía Vergara is ready for a potential Modern Family reunion and has expressed her enthusiasm for reuniting with her beloved castmates. Four years after the series ended, the actress still holds a deep affection for the show and her fictional family, but she knows it may take some time before the Pritchetts, Dunphys, and Tuckers make their return to TV. In a recent interview with Variety, Vergara opened up about her eagerness to step back into the role of Gloria Pritchett and jokingly mentioned her ongoing conversation with Ed O'Neill, who played her onscreen husband, Jay Pritchett.
Vergara, 52, shared that she frequently teases O'Neill, 78, about his age, especially when discussing the possibility of a reunion. After seeing him in the show Clipped, she jokingly told him, "You look really old." She added, "I always joke with him, 'Ed, don't die! If we do the sequel, it'll take some time, and you're the oldest of us. You can't be gone!'" Her playful banter reflects the close bond she shares with her former castmates and her excitement about potentially working together again.
The idea of a Modern Family sequel is something Vergara has given thought to, and she suggested a "TV movie" as a fun way to bring everyone back together. "It'd be so much fun," she said, clearly eager to revisit the world of Modern Family. Vergara's costar, Sarah Hyland, who played Haley Dunphy, has also expressed interest in a reunion. In an interview with PEOPLE, Hyland shared her love for the cast and mentioned that she would love to be part of a reboot or reunion. However, Hyland emphasized that her involvement would depend on the storyline. "Creatively, I'd want to know what's going on with Haley," she said. "I want to see her career back on track, and I'd want to see her balance motherhood and her professional life."
Last November, Vergara took the lead in organizing a special reunion for the Modern Family cast. It was the first time the cast had been together since the show ended in 2020, and Vergara described it as "very special" for everyone involved. The gathering included most of the original cast members, except for Ty Burrell, who couldn't attend. Vergara told PEOPLE that the reunion felt like no time had passed since they wrapped filming. "It was amazing because we're always connected," she said. "Even though we hadn't seen each other in so long, it felt like we had just left the set in 2020."
The reunion brought together cast members Ed O'Neill, Julie Bowen, Eric Stonestreet, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Ariel Winter, Rico Rodriguez, Nolan Gould, and Aubrey Anderson-Emmons, along with showrunners Chris Lloyd and Steve Levitan. Despite the years apart, the cast remains close, and their bond is as strong as ever. While there's no official word on a Modern Family reboot, it's clear that the love for the show and the friendships formed during its run remain alive and well.
