Family members of the fitness instructor verified Richard's death on July 13 was an accident just over a month after he passed away. A representative for Richard Simmons' family, Tom Estey, told E! News on August 21 that "this morning, Richard Simmons' brother Lenny received a call from the LA Coroner's office." "The Coroner informed Lenny that Richard's death was accidental due to complications from recent falls and heart disease as a contributing factor."
The representative went on, "Aside from the medication Richard had been prescribed, the toxicology report was negative." "The family would like to express their gratitude to everyone for their love and support during this extremely difficult time."
On July 13, one day shy of his 76th birthday, Richard was pronounced dead at the scene after officers responded to a call from his housekeeper. Richard's cause of death was being looked into, the Los Angeles Police Department revealed to People two days later.
Meanwhile, the Medical Examiner's Office listed his cause of death as delayed pending an investigation, per documents that E! News was able to access.
Numerous admirers, acquaintances, and family members began to pay tribute to the adored singer as further information about Richard's departure came to light.
"I want people to be happy about my brother, not sad," Lenny stated to E! News in July. "I want them to remember him for the genuine joy and love he brought to people’s lives."
"He had genuine concern for people," Lenny went on. Throughout his career, he offered assistance to thousands of people by phone, letter, and email. Thus, try not to be depressed. Honor his life.
Richard wrote multiple messages to his birthday admirers just hours before he passed away. Richard had generally avoided the spotlight in the years preceding his death.
He wrote, "Thank you," at the moment on X. "In my entire life, I have never received so many birthday messages! I'm composing emails while seated here. Enjoy the most amazing remainder of your Friday."
