Katy Perry recently opened up about her preferences and deal-breakers in a relationship during a candid discussion on the Call Her Daddy podcast, which is set to air on Wednesday, September 4.
The 39-year-old singer, who is engaged to actor Orlando Bloom, shared insights into her love life, reflecting on how her views on relationships have evolved over the years. When host Alex Cooper asked if Perry has a "type," she responded with a smile, "I've moved past being drawn to narcissists."
Cooper, 30, followed up by asking Perry about the red flags she now avoids in a partner. Perry didn't hesitate to list a few. "Anyone who constantly shifts the goalposts or emotionally undermines you—absolutely not," she explained. "And someone who claims to understand you better than you do yourself, or just refuses to pitch in when it matters."
Perry added a humorous yet telling example of what she values in a relationship. "If I come downstairs and find the kitchen spotless, with all the dishes done and the pantry doors closed, well, let's just say, that's how to win me over," she said, laughing. "That's my love language. I don't need extravagant gifts. I can buy myself a fancy car. Just handle the dishes."
Though Perry didn't name any past partners in the clip, her romantic history is well-known. She was previously married to comedian Russell Brand, who filed for divorce in 2011. She also dated musician John Mayer before beginning her relationship with Bloom in 2016. After a brief breakup in 2017, Perry and Bloom rekindled their romance, eventually making a public appearance together at the Global Ocean Gala in Monaco in September 2018.
The couple became engaged in February 2019 and welcomed their daughter, Daisy Dove Bloom, in August 2020. Speaking on the What Now? podcast with Trevor Noah in April, Bloom reflected on balancing their busy lives, saying, "It's challenging with our careers, but I always try to bring her back to what matters, like building something simple together, even if it's just a sandcastle."
