Amid the premiere of "Unstoppable" at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), Jennifer Lopez and Matt Damon, a very close friend to Ben Affleck, were spotted engaged in an intimate conversation at the film's afterparty. This interaction comes just weeks after Lopez filed for divorce from Ben Affleck, Damon's longtime friend and collaborator.
According to an insider who spoke to People magazine, Lopez, 55, and Damon, 53, talked for over 20 minutes at the EPOCH Bar & Kitchen Terrace at The Ritz-Carlton. The source revealed, "Jen and Matt began talking and had a long, deep conversation," noting that the pair laughed and spoke seriously, at times clasping hands as they conversed.
The premiere marked Lopez's first major public appearance since filing for divorce from Affleck on August 20, 2024, after two years of marriage. Notably absent from both the premiere and afterparty was Affleck himself, who co-produced "Unstoppable" alongside Damon and Lopez through their production company, Artists Equity.
William Goldenberg, the film's director, addressed Affleck's absence, telling Variety, "Everybody's a professional, and that's their own personal thing. I love them both. I mean, I know Ben better, but Jennifer was literally a dream to work with. She was incredible. And their personal life is their personal life."
"Unstoppable," a biopic about wrestler Anthony Robles, features Lopez as Robles' mother, Judy. During the post-screening Q&A, Lopez emphasized the importance of portraying Judy's story authentically, stating, "I think it was my job really to help her feel safe... to tell their story in the best and most beautiful way that it deserved."
The film received a standing ovation at TIFF, with Lopez stunning on the red carpet in a silver Tamara Ralph gown alongside castmates Don Cheadle, Jharrel Jerome, and Bobby Cannavale.
With "Unstoppable" set for a limited theatrical release in December before streaming on Prime Video, all eyes will be on how the film's promotional tour unfolds amidst these personal developments.
