Selena Gomez has always been candid about her health struggles, but in a heartfelt interview with Vanity Fair, the 32-year-old singer and actress revealed that she cannot carry her own children due to medical issues, a reality she has had to come to terms with.
"I haven't ever said this, but I unfortunately can't carry my own children," Gomez shared. "I have a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the baby's in jeopardy. That was something I had to grieve for a while."
Gomez, who has been open about her lupus diagnosis and the 2017 kidney transplant that saved her life, also lives with bipolar disorder, another condition that complicates the possibility of a safe pregnancy. Despite these challenges, Gomez remains hopeful about becoming a mother, exploring options such as surrogacy or adoption.
Reflecting on her journey, Gomez expressed gratitude for alternative paths to motherhood, acknowledging that while her vision of having children has changed, her desire to be a mother remains unwavering. "I'm excited for what that journey will look like, but it'll look a little different. At the end of the day, I don't care. It'll be mine. It'll be my baby."
Currently in a relationship with music producer Benny Blanco, Gomez is optimistic about the future, and her openness about such personal issues continues to inspire her fans.
