The lead singer of Foo Fighters revealed on September 10 that he had welcomed a daughter outside of his union with Jordyn Blum, the mother of his children, Violet, 18, Harper, 15, and Ophelia, 10.
The August 2003 marriage to Blum brought Grohl the title "I plan to be a loving and supportive parent to her" on Instagram. "I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness."
"We're grateful for your consideration toward all children involved," he concluded, "as we move forward together."
Grohl denied any further information about the mother of his newborn child.
With his message, the former Nirvana drummer makes an unusual choice—he usually keeps his personal life private. But over the years, the 55-year-old has provided unique insight into his relationship with Blum, a former model.
In fact, the Virginia native discussed how his wife kept him grounded in the midst of his busy life in a 2007 interview with The Guardian.
"For the past 20 years when I've been touring, I've always craved stability," he shared. I've never found chaos to be enjoyable. Every time I felt like I was being sucked into the madness during the entire Nirvana experience, I would retreat to Virginia. The Foo Fighters are the same."
"I wouldn't be able to do this if I didn't have my feet planted firmly on the ground," Grohl added. "So Jordyn and Violet are anchors that keep me from completely disappearing."
He discussed how becoming a father has affected his approach to his work three years later.
He stated, "I used to tour nine months out of the year," to TIME in a December 2009 article. "Now I don't like being away from my kids for more than 12 days."
"It's changed everything that I do," Grohl added. "When you have kids, you see life through different eyes. You feel love more deeply and are maybe a little more compassionate. It's inevitable that that would make its way into your songwriting."
They even influence his look, pleading with his father not to chop his signature hair.
In 2021, Grohl said, "I want to," to Vulture. "Don't, Dad, my kids are saying to me. You're too unattractive. Never chop off your f-king hair. I used to follow this routine: after shaving it with a No. 7, I would let it grow out. But I gave up after a while."
Joking aside, Grohl mentioned that some of his most sacred stories are told to his children.
