John Mulaney and Olivia Munn have a family of four now. Months after the Newsroom alumna revealed her battle with breast cancer, the couple welcomed their first daughter via surrogate.
On September 22, "the year of the dragon," Olivia, 44, and John, 42, posted on their Instagram pages, "Méi June Mulaney came into the world September 14, 2024."
The comedian and actress shared photos of the three of them at a beachfront location overlooking the ocean with their two-year-old son Malcolm Hiep Mulaney. She also shared a photo of the happy mother cuddling her newborn in a hospital bed, perched on her husband's lap.
Two months after getting married, Olivia and John revealed Méi's pregnancy. Six months later, Méi disclosed that she had spent six months undergoing treatment for breast cancer, which included several surgeries, including a double mastectomy, a hysterectomy to remove her uterus and fallopian tubes, and an oophorectomy to remove her ovaries, all of which left her infertile.
She later revealed that prior to the last two operations, she and John had IVF and produced "two healthy embryos," telling Vogue in an interview from May that having a surrogate child was no longer a "scary prospect" for her.
Olivia said on Instagram, "I had so many profound emotions about not being able to carry my daughter," when she shared the news of their daughter's birth. "We spoke like mothers when I first met our gestational surrogate. She treated me with such kindness and compassion that I knew I had found a true angel."
"Words cannot express how grateful I am that she kept our baby safe for nine months and fulfilled our dreams," the actress continued.
In Chinese, "Méi," which is pronounced "May," means "plum." Olivia posted, "I am so proud of my little plum, my little dragon, for making the journey to be with us," in reference to her mother's Chinese ancestry. My heart has burst open."
John, who has been dating Olivia since 2021, joked about the freebies new parents frequently receive while also sharing his thoughts about becoming a girl dad.
In his post, he said, "We stole so much stuff from the hospital," and it featured a video of baby Méi spitting milk onto her father's shoulder while being burped. "I love my little girl so much."
