Donna Kelce is grateful that her son, NFL star Travis Kelce, is "very coachable" as he gears up for his acting debut in the FX series Grotesquerie.
Donna, also the mother of Philadelphia Eagles' Jason Kelce, attended the premiere of the show in New York City on Monday, Sept. 23, in support of Travis' new role. The 34-year-old Kansas City Chiefs tight end couldn't attend the event, as it followed his team's 22-17 victory over the Atlanta Falcons.
Speaking to PEOPLE at the premiere, Donna, 71, said she's not anxious about seeing Travis on screen. "I've been watching them perform in sports or school plays since they were little. It's just a mom watching her kids," she explained.
Though Grotesquerie marks Travis' scripted TV debut, Donna wasn't shocked he ventured into acting. "I think it's something he's always been interested in," she shared. "He's very coachable, and when an opportunity like this came up, he wanted to give it a try."
Donna praised her son's work ethic, noting that Travis excels in anything he takes on. His Grotesquerie co-star, Niecy Nash-Betts, echoed similar sentiments, telling PEOPLE that Travis was "professional" and always came prepared. "He was very open to feedback, never acting like he knew it all," Nash-Betts added.
Nash-Betts, 54, plays Detective Lois Tryon in the Ryan Murphy-created series, where she investigates a string of disturbing crimes that hit close to home. Travis' character has yet to be revealed, keeping fans curious about his role in the show.
The series also features a talented ensemble cast including Courtney B. Vance, Lesley Manville, Micaela Diamond, Raven Goodwin, and Nicholas Alexander Chavez, promising a gripping and star-studded debut for Travis Kelce.
