Angelina Jolie has withdrawn her lawsuit against the Department of Justice and the FBI, which sought documents related to their investigation into a 2016 incident involving her ex-husband, Brad Pitt, aboard a private jet. The legal battle, initiated under the Freedom of Information Act in 2022, was a request for documents concerning an alleged domestic violence event during the couple's transatlantic flight with their six children. In the lawsuit, Jolie, listed as "Jane Doe," accused Pitt of verbal and physical abuse that caused lasting trauma to her and their children.
Despite the seriousness of the allegations, the FBI reviewed the case in 2016 and decided not to press charges against Pitt. The lawsuit aimed to obtain these investigative documents to provide medical care and counseling for the children, according to Jolie's claims. However, the case has now been dismissed with prejudice, meaning it cannot be refiled, and each party will bear their own legal costs.
The dismissal of the case comes amid ongoing legal disputes between Jolie and Pitt, particularly regarding their French vineyard, Château Miraval. Jolie's legal team recently accused Pitt of blocking efforts toward reconciliation, while Pitt's attorneys criticized her legal actions as a "sensationalist fishing expedition."
The couple, who separated shortly after the 2016 plane incident, have been engaged in numerous legal battles since then, including issues related to child custody and property. Jolie's representatives have yet to comment on her decision to drop the lawsuit.
