Jennifer Lopez recently opened up about her split from Ben Affleck. Speaking with Nikki Glaser for Interview Magazine, Lopez, 55, revealed that she's "excited" to be single after filing for divorce from Affleck, whom she married in 2022.
Lopez admitted that her post-divorce experience is "lonely, unfamiliar, scary," but also sees it as a chance to redefine herself outside of relationships. "Everything that I've done over the past 25, 30 years, being in these different challenging situations, what can I f---ing do when it's just me flying on my own? What if I'm just free?" she questioned. While she remains a romantic at heart, Lopez emphasized, "Being in a relationship doesn't define me. I can't be looking for happiness in other people. I have to have happiness within myself."
Reflecting on her emotional journey, Lopez revealed that her breakup with Affleck was overwhelming. "My whole f---ing world exploded," she confessed, noting the media scrutiny surrounding their split. Despite the challenges, she remains grounded, explaining, "I know I'm a good person. I know I'm a good mom. I know who my friends are."
This period of transition, however, has not been without its difficulties. Lopez candidly shared how stepping into "new territory" has felt "lonely, sad, and desperate." She explained, "When you sit in those feelings and go, 'These things are not going to kill me,' it's like, 'Actually, I am capable of joy and happiness all by myself.'" The singer, who has been married three times before, stressed the importance of being "good on your own," admitting that she didn't fully learn this lesson until her most recent breakup.
Looking ahead, Lopez is not focused on finding a new partner. "I'm not looking for anybody because everything that I've done over the past 25, 30 years... what if I'm just free?" she said.
In addition to her personal life, Lopez touched on her professional projects, such as her film Unstoppable, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. Speaking about the film, she said, "I felt really good... it's one of those great inspirational stories that I think the world needs right now."
