Comedian Pete Davidson, 30, was seen in public for the first time in several months, joining friend Machine Gun Kelly (MGK) for a private showing of The Room at Los Angeles' Intuit Dome on October 24. The former SNL cast member appeared relaxed, sporting a meaningful T-shirt for the occasion.

Earlier this summer, Davidson took time to focus on his mental health, checking into a wellness facility in July to address challenges related to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and borderline personality disorder.

Davidson's struggles with mental health have often been tied to the tragic loss of his father, Scott Matthew Davidson, a firefighter who passed away during the September 11 attacks in 2001. Davidson was only 7 years old at the time, and his father's death has deeply influenced his life and career. He has shared heartfelt memories of his father in interviews and on social media, including a 2016 tribute marking the 15th anniversary of Scott's passing. In a now-deleted Instagram post, Davidson shared a throwback photo captioned, "Can't believe tomorrow is going to be 15 years. Missing the legend!!!"

The following day, Davidson humorously recalled a memory where his father's coworkers gave him some of Scott's old work boots and a photograph. "One of my dad's homies gave me his old dirty a-- boots from work and a sick photo of him looking like a young legend!" he wrote, playfully commenting on his dad's choice of Sketchers shoes.

Davidson's mother, Amy Waters Davidson, shared with PEOPLE in 2020 that it took Pete years to come to terms with his father's loss. "It was really hard for him to recover," she revealed. "It's just been recently that he's finding his way and being okay."

In the same year, Davidson channeled his personal journey into The King of Staten Island, a semi-autobiographical film directed by Judd Apatow. In the film, Davidson plays Scott Carlin, a young man facing the loss of his firefighter father and finding solace through comedy. "The movie is like my love letter to my mom, and trying to end that part of my life," Davidson shared with PEOPLE.
