Blake Lively recently paid a heartfelt tribute to her longtime friend and admired filmmaker, Baz Luhrmann, on Instagram. The Gossip Girl alum, 37, revealed that she's been a fan of Luhrmann's work since her teenage years and still has a signed poster of him on her bedroom wall. "@bazluhrmann was the first & only signed poster I ever had on my wall as a teenager. It's still there today," she wrote, emphasizing the lasting impact he's had on her life.
On Saturday, Lively attended the star-studded LACMA Art + Film Gala in Los Angeles, where Luhrmann, 62, and artist Simone Leigh were both honored. She marked the occasion by sharing a series of photos on Instagram, showcasing her stunning gala look — a Tamara Ralph diamond chainmail minidress paired with a flowing, tangerine silk taffeta cape. The ensemble perfectly captured the bold style Luhrmann's films are known for.
Lively's caption offered a glimpse into her friendship with Luhrmann, whom she describes as "even more mischievous and magical in real life." She shared that the director led her away from the gala for an impromptu photoshoot inspired by her cape and a nearby palm tree, saying, "He's inspired by everything, and all he needs to create thrill is your cape and a palm tree." In one playful shot, Lively is seen photographing Luhrmann as he models her cape, barefoot and in character. "He'll enthusiastically play along when you ask to put your cape on him," she wrote, noting how Luhrmann embodies creativity and joy, bringing out the same in those around him.
Lively continued to celebrate Luhrmann's personality and his collaborative spirit, describing him as "the match & the lighter fluid" for creativity. "He's happiest when you're happiest," she wrote, a quality she feels extends to friends, colleagues, and even strangers.
Lively also praised Luhrmann's wife and collaborator, Catherine Martin, calling her "one of one" and emphasizing how the two are inextricably linked in their impact and creativity. Her post came shortly after she starred in a cinematic editorial directed by Luhrmann for Vogue, where she played "The Cat" in a Hitchcock-inspired spread, alongside her husband's close friend, Hugh Jackman.
