Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, the iconic duo from the 1997 blockbuster Titanic, recently reunited at a special screening of Winslet’s latest film, Lee, at the Harmony Gold theater in Los Angeles on November 19, 2024. The event marked a heartwarming moment as the two celebrated their enduring friendship and Winslet’s remarkable career.
DiCaprio, who turned 50 just days before the screening, hailed Winslet as one of the great talents of my generation while introducing her new movie. He said she had strength, integrity, talent, and passion and commended her work in the film as transformative. The old co-stars shared a friendly kiss on the lips as Winslet appeared onstage, showing how well they get on.
Many fans and insiders alike flocked to this special screening, which was an excitement to see the two stars together again. Winslet, in an all-black ensemble, looked chic and elegant, while DiCaprio was relaxed in his blue suit, oozing with his signature style.
Winslet’s new film, Lee, in which she plays the American fashion model-turned World War II photographer Lee Miller. The film follows the story of Miller, one of the few female war photographers of her time, through the atrocities and heroism of WWII. For Winslet, the project is close to her heart since she stars and produces it.
Interestingly, Winslet said she had another Titanic reunion during the recording session for the movie’s score: she found out one of the violinists was Jonathan Evans-Jones, who played the Titanic’s bandleader, Wallace Hartley, in the film. That one little occurrence made the project a bit more serendipitous.
DiCaprio’s reunion with Winslet has been a trend in the past. The star couple has worked together in the movie Revolutionary Road in 2008 and has shared many stages since then, like the 4th Annual Saint-Tropez Gala in 2017. The friendship between them has continued, undeterred with time and by the pandemic that kept them apart for some time.
As recently as October 2024, Winslet addressed questions about the infamous floating door scene of Titanic while out promoting Lee on the Australian talk show The Project. She jokily speculated that DiCaprio’s character Jack could have found room on the piece of floating wood her character Rose survived on.
The long-standing chemistry between DiCaprio and Winslet remains an intriguing phenomenon to their audience and a reflection of the mutual respect and regard they have for one another. Their reunion at the Lee screening was a poignant reminder of the indelible mark of their collaboration on Titanic and the shared history in Hollywood they’ve undergone.
Lee hit theaters and is now available to rent/buy on digital platforms, giving audiences the opportunity to see just how powerful Winslet is in the film and just how extraordinary a woman’s mark on history can be.
